White Clay School Behavioral Philosophy
Here at WC our staff are trained in the basic principles of Applied Behavior Analysis with a heavy focus on positive reinforcement and proactive interventions to treat challenging behaviors. Our full-time BCBA provides an annual workshop to our teachers and staff, as well as ongoing training and consultation. At WC, we believe that all behaviors serve a basic function and that challenging behaviors are often a means of communication. Behavior support plans are structured according to the function or purpose of a student’s target behaviors, and appropriate replacement behaviors are then taught accordingly. All student interventions and plans are tailored specifically to meet the individual needs of that child. We also encourage collaboration across environments, including parents and caregivers in the home, support providers (SLP, OT, PT) in the school, and other outside support services such as center-based ABA providers, in order to provide the best outcomes for our students.
